Maritsa is one of the oldest and most picturesque villages on the island. It is assumed to owe its name to an officer, named Martizas, who settled there during the Middle Ages. However, according to local tradition it was named after a queen called Maritsa who resided in Filerimos.

Stroll along the the paved main street and admire the traditional colour of the village with its whitewashed houses and tavernas renowned throughout Greece, then enjoy a walk along the unique trail through Maritsa pineforest.
